Medicare awarded three stars to some of the nation's most esteemed hospitals, putting St. Mary on par with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
St. Mary Medical Center has received full accreditation as a Chest Pain Center with PCI from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC). The PCI distinction refers the ability at St. Mary to perform percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), also known as angioplasty, performed by interventional cardiologists in our cardiac catheterization labs to quickly open blocked arteries and restore blood flow. The accreditation means that St. Mary had demonstrated a systematic approach to effective patient management that allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the early stages of a heart attack when treatments are most effective, and to better monitor patients when it is not clear whether or not they are having a heart attack.

The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) was established in 1955 as one of the first cooperative groups launched to perform multi-center cancer clinical trials. Funded primarily by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), ECOG has evolved from a five member consortium of institutions on the East Coast to one of the largest clinical cancer research organizations in the U.S. with almost 6000 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, statisticians, and clinical research associates (CRAs) from the U.S., Canada, and South Africa. Recently ECOG merged with the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN), the premier imaging science program in the nation with its expertise in early detection, imaging diagnosis, comparative-effectiveness research, and cost-effectiveness analysis. Our audit was conducted by a team from ECOG-ACRIN and was given an exceptional rating. Making our success even more exciting to us was the fact that we were given 2 weeks to prepare instead of the usual 6 weeks. (We opted for an early date). We pride ourselves in being audit ready which was reflected in this visit.

St. Mary achieved the Mission: Lifeline® Receiving Center- GOLD Level Recognition Award. St. Mary Regional Trauma Center officially marks its 25th Anniversary of service to the community with its recent reaccreditation by the Pennsylvania Trauma System Foundation (PTSF). Effective for three years, the aggressive accreditation review ensures that optimum care is being provided for critically injured patients. St. Mary is the only accredited Trauma Center in Bucks County and one of only 30 accredited Trauma Centers in the commonwealth.
Neurosurgeons at St. Mary Medical Center now have a new way to treat large brain aneurysms that once were considered very risky to treat with traditional methods. Neurosurgeon Pascal Jabbour implanted a Pipeline Embolization Device (PED) to treat a giant aneurysm in the brain of 70-year-old woman.
St. Mary Medical Center became the first Neurosciences Center in the tri-state area to use the Solitaire Flow Restoration Device, after it received U.S. Food and Drug Administration ( FDA) approval on March 6, 2012. The device was used to retrieve a blood clot in the brain of an 84-year-old man suffering a major stroke. The Solitaire device is the latest generation in clot-retrieval systems and has demonstrated that it is significantly more effective than previous devices.
The St. Mary MRI deparment received a three-year accreditation from the American Colleague of Radiology for Breast MRI. Receipt of this accreditation was based on staff qualifications, equipment, quality control, quality assurance, MR safety policies and image quality.
The St. Mary Sleep/Wake Disorders Center in Bensalem has earned accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, which the Sleep/Wake Disorders Center on the hospital campus earned in 2008. This quality distinction demonstrates that the St. Mary Sleep/Wake Disorders Centers meet or exceed national quality standards that can significantly improve outcomes for patients suffering from sleep/wake disorders.

The St. Mary Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center was honored by Diversified Clinical Services with a Center of Distinction Award. To achieve the award, the Wound Center had to demonstrate overall patient satisfaction of at least 90 percent, a high success rate in healing wounds; as well as achieving those healing rates within an effective time frame of less than 30 days -- for 12 consecutive months.

St. Mary Medical Center broke ground for an expansion and redesign of its Emergency Department and Trauma Center that will transform the way emergency care is provided to the community. While experiencing double-digit growth in the Emergency Department in each of past three years, patient satisfaction scores remain in the 90th to 95th percentile. The new expansion and redesign will provide the ability to care for up to 100,000 people annually - nearly double the current capacity - to help meet the increasing need in the region for prompt and advanced emergency care.

St. Mary Medical Center is among the first in the nation to implant the newly FDA-approved pacing system considered safe for patients undergoing an MRI scan. The SureScanTM Pacing System was implanted into the chest of an 80-year-old patient with a history of atrial fibrillation and a slow heartbeat.
Nuclear Medicine and positron emmision tomography (PET) were granted three-year accreditations from the American Colleege of Radiology (ACR). The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety.
The echocardiography lab was granted a three-year term of re-accreditation in the area of adult transthoracic by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).
The Breast Center at St. Mary Medical Center received a three-year/Full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with quality standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease.
The laboratory at St. Mary Medical Center was awarded a two-year re-accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site inspection. The CAP accreditation is the gold standard measuring excellence in safe and accurate testing.
The St. Mary Breast Center is designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), recognized for ACR accreditation for mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, as well as for achieving high practice standards in personnel qualifications, equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

The St. Mary Medical Center Clinical Laboratory earned reaccreditation from the College of American Pathologists after a rigorous on-site inspection designed to ensure the highest standard of care. The Blood Bank also was awarded reaccreditation from the AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks).
The Neurophysiology Department received EEG Lab accreditation from the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, making St. Mary the only hospital in Bucks County and one of about 50 healthcare facilities in the nation to earn this distinction for meeting technical standards and demonstrating quality output.
