Acute-care rehabilitation hospital is first and only in Bucks County.
LANGHORNE, Pa., May 22, 2014 – St. Mary Medical Center announces the opening of the new St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital. The St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital expects to admit patients beginning May 29.The free-standing, state-of-the-art, 50-bed, acute-care inpatient hospital is dedicated to the treatment and recovery of individuals who have experienced illness or injury such as stroke, brain injury, trauma, spinal cord or orthopedic injury, neurological conditions, amputation, or other diagnoses requiring skilled rehabilitation.
The St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital is a joint venture between St. Mary Medical Center and Centerre Healthcare, a national corporation that specializes in partnering with hospitals to provide high-level rehabilitation services in their communities. Treatment teams are comprised of highly qualified specialists including physiatrists; physician experts; neuropsychologists; rehabilitation nurses; physical, occupational and respiratory therapists; speech pathologists; pharmacists; dieticians; and care managers. Every plan of care is highly individualized to the specific needs and capabilities of each patient to return them to their highest level of independence and quality of life.

The St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital is designed with four pods or specialized units, each planned to accommodate specific physical and/or neurological issues and staffed with specially trained nurses and medical teams.
The units include:
- Stroke Recovery
- Neurology Recovery (brain injuries)
- Spinal Cord Injury and other Neurological Conditions
- Muscular Skeletal (traumatic injuries, amputations, etc)
Spacious therapy gyms are equipped with the latest rehabilitative equipment and assistive devices to help patients regain their mobility, independence, and ability to perform daily tasks. A Transition-to-Community (TTC) apartment and Activities of Daily Life Suite provide a home-like environment to allow patients and their caregivers a safe setting in which to practice and prepare for discharge to home and community.
The new hospital offers several patient amenities, including beautifully appointed private rooms with spacious Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant baths and walk-in showers, flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, spacious dayrooms and lounges, indoor and outdoor dining areas, accommodations for family and friends to dine with patients, landscaped patios, and a resource library.
A customized therapy courtyard combines beauty and function. It contains a gazebo, basketball backboard system, walking path, and putting green. The multiple-surface walkways, including brick, gravel, wood, and concrete, allow patients to practice ambulating in real-world conditions, and a sports utility vehicle stationed in the courtyard allows for practice in entering and exiting a vehicle.
St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital is conveniently located across from the St. Mary Medical Center campus at 1200 Langhorne-Newtown Road in Langhorne, Pa. The new St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital is within minutes of 1-95 and the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Turnpikes.
