Recreational Therapy

The St. Mary Recreation Therapy Program uses recreational and leisure activities to restore and improve an individual's functional skills to enhance quality of life.  

The goal of the program is to improve patient’s social, cognitive, emotional, and physical functional behaviors which are necessary to participate in lifestyle activities.  Recreation therapy is utilized as a treatment intervention in conjunction with the overall rehabilitation goals of the patient.

Recreation therapy encourages activities of enjoyment and leisure.

Recreational therapy programs include :

  • One on One Treatment
  • Leisure Education and Counseling
  • Social Groups
  • Horticulture Programs
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • Co-Treatment Groups:
       Cooking
  •    Mobility
  •    Cognitive
  •    Social and Communication

Diversional Recreation is also offered at St. Mary and is available to all patients during their stay on the rehabilitation unit.  In addition, activities that do not require staff direction also are provided.  These may include books, puzzles, cards, games and crafts.
