Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when a blood clot forms inside a vein, typically in one leg, and blocks the flow of blood. This blood clot can break loose, travel through the veins, and block a blood vessel in the lungs, resulting in pulmonary embolism.
Only half of people with DVT have symptoms. Though difficult to detect, patients can educate themselves about DVT and speak to their physicians about risk factors and prevention.
