H1N1 and Flu Update

St. Mary Medical Center is continuing normal operations (including all scheduled appointments and procedures) as we carefully monitor the evolving situation concerning H1N1 and seasonal flu.  We are taking precautionary measures to protect patients and staff, as flu season continue to emerge throughout Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties.

Effective November 13, 2009, the following visitation guidelines are being implemented at
St. Mary Medical Center
   Press release

 Visitation Guidelines For Flu Protection

  • No visitors under age 18
  • Refrain from visiting if sick
  • Two visitors only per patient

Because the safety of our patients, colleagues and visitors is our number one priority, St. Mary Medical Center is adopting visitation guidelines for the duration of the H1N1 and seasonal flu season as an infection-prevention measure to reduce the spread of influenza to hospitalized patients, and we are asking your cooperation with these guidelines.

We recommend that the public cover their cough, use tissues, and wash their hands frequently to control the spread of infection.  If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough or chills, you should contact your primary care physician.

Most people do not need medical treatment to recover from seasonal or H1N1 flu.  We encourage people exhibiting flu-like symptoms to contact their Primary Care Physicians. If you feel your illness is severe, please visit the nearest emergency department or clinic.
For a true medical emergency, please call 9-1-1.

CDC recommendations for caring for a sick person at home

For the protection and continued care of our patients, St. Mary Medical Center asks that  if you are sick or have a fever to please refrain from visiting patients.

Also note that for the protection of our patients and colleagues, all people seen in our Emergency Department who are exhibiting flu-like symptoms will be required to wear a mask. Thank you for your cooperation with this infection-control policy.

Please continue to check back, as we will continue to provided updated information throughout the flu season.
