The Health Sciences Library and CME Office collaboratively provide a facility-wide subscription to Cardiosource Plus, the premier online portal offering immediate and convenient access to cutting-edge cardiovascular information.  All St. Mary physicians and colleagues now have access to all of Cardiosource core content such as clinical trials library, clinical images library, case studies and expert opinions and much more.

Access Cardiosource Plus from any St. Mary computer by going to www.cardiosource.com.  To access from an outside (non-SMMC) computer, go to www.athensam.net/myathens, log in to your Athens account, and you will see a link to CardioSource Plus.  If you need an Athens account, please contact Jackie Luizzi, Medical Librarian, jluizzi@stmaryhealthcare.org, at 215-710-2012.

CME Activity:

Academic Detailing:  Learn how to retrieve information for evidence-based practice using the institution’s online resources and earn Category 1 CME credit.  Individualized training on the use of St. Mary’s evidence-based point-of-care resources and Library databases is available at your office or at the St. Mary Health Sciences Library, through Jackie Luizzi, Health Sciences Librarian. 

Resources include DynaMed, MDConsult, eMedicine, EBSCOHost databases, as well as the Athens remote access portal which gives access to all of our online resources from any location.

Further, DynaMed and eMedicine both provide CME credit to reward physicians for providing patient care based on current, evidence-based practice guidelines as a result of their information searches.

NCME TV – Physicians can view CME activities and earn CME credit from any computer, at any time 24/7 and at no charge through St. Mary’s subscription to NCMETV™, an on line CME service.

NCME TV™ is a series of professionally produced CME video programs on important state-mandated topics and other topics of interest to practicing clinicians. The service is only available through institutional subscription and provides convenient access for staff and attending physicians of St. Mary Medical Center.

To access CME activities:

  1. Go to www.ncmetv.com
  2. Click on the "Already a Subscriber? Enter Here" link on the home page,
  3. Register as a new user or log in if already registered. Our hospital ID is 696250, you need this ID to register.  

Here’s how it works: Physicians use a personal password to access the online program and receive CME credit for viewing it. A self-assessment quiz is included as part of the activity. The programs are available on-demand and can be accessed 24/7.  CME certificates will be sent upon receipt of the activity evaluation. Self-assessment quizzes and activity evaluations will be completed online and CME certificates will automatically be generated from the site.


eMedicine – earn unlimited CME credit reading medical literature through St. Mary’s eMedicine subscription, provided as a service from the St. Mary Health Sciences Library. 

  1. Go to www.iMedicine.com and enter utilizing St. Mary account number 1228.
  2. Conduct an article search, or drill down through the Table of Contents to select the article to take for CME credit.
  3. Review the article.
  4. When finished reviewing, scroll to the top of the page. On the right side, in a gray box, click on “Get CME/CE for Article”.
  5. A new window opens. Our CME is hosted by Medscape. First-time readers will have to create a new Medscape account. Simply click on “Register Now!” and complete the one-time registration. All others enter your Medscape log in information (eMedicine CME account numbers are no longer valid) and click on “Log In”. If your browser is set to allow cookies, the system will remember you the next time you access CME.
  6. Once logged in, this window will display the CME page for the article. On the right side of the page, in a blue box, click on “Earn CME Credit”. The test will appear in this window.
  7. Complete the test and click on “Save and Proceed”. When you get to the screen with “View/Print the Certificate for This Activity”, click on this button to print out the Certificate. Your CME activity for both eMedicine articles and any other Medscape activities will be viewable in Medscape’s CME Tracker.


The American Heart Association’s Professional Education Center offers a variety of free continuing education opportunities delivered through a variety of e-learning platforms to meet your preferred style of learning. Sign up today to take AHA online courses, satellite broadcasts, webinars and podcasts. For those who prefer LIVE learning, the Professional Education Center offers registration opportunities for many AHA workshops and conferences.  You can also track all your AHA Continuing Education history at this site.

Once you have registered for an event or course, simply open the course outline from your Courses page. Within the course outline you will be able to complete an online course, download resources, complete pre/post tests and claim a certificate of completion or credit. This information is maintained on the Professional Education Center, allowing you to return anytime to reprint a certificate or transcript of your education.
