St. Mary Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center Earns National Quality Recognition - Archived
LANGHORNE, PA – April 27, 2011 – The St. Mary Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center recently was honored by Diversified Clinical Services with a Center of Distinction Award. St. Mary earned the quality distinction for achieving outstanding patient outcomes for the past 12 consecutive months. St. Mary is among more than 300 hospitals nationwide that partner with Diversified Clinical Services, a recognized leader in wound-care management services, in providing evidence-based medicine and advanced technology for hard-to-heal wounds. St. Mary was one of only 75 wound centers within the Diversified system to earn this quality distinction and the only center nation-wide to earn it within its first year of operation. St. Mary opened the 5,000-square-foot outpatient center in the Cornerstone Executive Suites in Langhorne, PA, in January 2010, as a specialized resource center to treat chronic and non-healing wounds that have resisted conventional treatment.
To achieve the Center of Distinction Award, the St. Mary Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center had to demonstrate overall patient satisfaction of at least 90 percent; a high success rate in healing wounds; as well as achieving those healing rates within an effective time frame of less than 30 days for most patients. The skill, experience, and professionalism of physicians certified in wound care and WOCN-certified nurses also were among quality indicators contributing to the excellence in care provided at the St. Mary wound healing center.
“This award is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our talented staff onsite here, as well as the professional and clinical support we have received from St. Mary and Diversified Clinical Services,” said Dr. David Brotman, Medical Director of the St. Mary Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, and President of the American Professional Wound Care Association. “The Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center can make a real difference for those whose quality of life is affected by the complications of hard-to-heal sores, pressure ulcers, surgical incisions, and traumatic injuries.”
The St. Mary wound healing center offers advanced healing therapies, proven clinical protocols, and individual patient treatment plans using a disease-management approach to healing wounds and addressing the underlying causes of problematic wounds, such as inadequate circulation, poor nutrition, or lack of exercise. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a therapy used to accelerate the healing process during which a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while relaxing in a special pressurized chamber. The wound center offers a comprehensive approach that allows patients to return to their normal lifestyle faster.
“Being presented this award is a great way to cap off their first year,” said Nada Raiser, Area Vice President for Diversified Clinical Services. “It’s not an easy task to open a new center and achieve the outstanding numbers they have at St. Mary. The physicians, nurses and clinical staff at St. Mary have set the bar very high, which greatly benefits the quality of life in the community they serve.”
