A Magna Cum Laude graduate from Harvard University with a B.A. in Biochemical Sciences, Dr. Shin completed his MD at Yale University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at UCLA Medical Center. He completed fellowship training in hand surgery at the Harvard Combined Hand Fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Shin's medical interests encompass all pathology from the elbows to the fingertips. He is especially interested in the treatment and reconstruction of wrist problems and traumatic injuries to the upper extremities.
He is currently the lead investigator in studies examining (1) treatment methods for trigger finger and (2) the surgical management for carpal tunnel syndrome. He has also published extensively on Dupuytren’s contracture and wrist fractures.
Dr. Shin has presented his research at national and international hand surgery meetings and has published more than 15 scientific abstracts and over 20 scientific manuscripts. He currently serves as an associate editor to hand surgery’s highly regarded scientific publication, the Journal of Hand Surgery.
Dr. Shin has earned multiple certificates of commendation from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA. He has been named as a “Top Physician” by Philadelphia’s Suburban Magazine. He currently serves as the president of the Philadelphia Hand Society and holds administrative positions within prominent hand surgery societies.
He takes personal pride in being identified as a "Young Leader" by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
He has also served as a chairman and maintains an active academic role each year in the prestigious Philadelphia Hand Surgery and Philadelphia Hand Therapy Symposia.
Dr. Shin is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and holds subspecialty certification in hand surgery.
Dr. Shin maintains an Assistant Professorship in Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Shin has presented at numerous national and international conferences, symposia, and organizational meetings and is both a peer reviewer and author of numerous professional journal articles on surgery of the upper extremity.
