St. Mary Pathology and Lab

lab tech with centrifugeOutpatient clinical laboratory services are done in laboratory services in the outpatient care building. The outpatient building has convenient access from the parking garage at the rear of the St. Mary Medical Center main campus. Many of the tests do not require a scheduled appointment, but patients must bring a physician's note or script (this is mandatory), insurance card and a form of photo identification with them at time of testing.

Lab blood collection is available:

  • Monday to Friday: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The clinical laboratory encompasses the departments of hematology, chemistry, microbiology and blood bank. Many of the hematology and chemistry results are completed by the end of that same day, but some are not resulted for several days. Most cultures take at least two full days before results are completed.

When lab results are complete, they are automatically faxed to the ordering physician and your primary care physician the next morning. You should call your physician for the results or you can view them on the patient portal. For HIPAA privacy reasons, results cannot be given over the telephone, by fax or mail. A copy of your results can be obtained in person through the Health Information Management department.

For anatomical pathology, we are frequently asked about how to get patient slides for review by another facility. Call us at 215.710.2162 at least 24 hours (Monday through Friday) in advance of pickup. We will need to know to whom the slides are being sent (the physician and facility name). The slides may be picked up by the patient or we can mail them via certified mail.

CAP accreditation logoFully accredited by the College of American Pathologists and operating within the standards set by the Joint Commission, the lab handles inpatient and outpatient needs for patients of all ages.
